Hyfire and Advanced protect The Art of Banksy Exhibition in Manchester

29 November 2022

SYSTEMS INSTALLER Fire Queen Limited has combined a state-of-the-art Advanced Go fire panel with cutting-edge wireless devices from Hyfire to protect artwork at The Art of Banksy Exhibition, which is housed in a temporary venue at Manchester’s Media City.

The Fire Queen team members were given just one week’s notice to survey the site and then specify and install

The Fire Queen team members were given just one week’s notice to survey the site and then specify and install a BS 5839-1:2017-compliant fire system to protect the exhibition, which plays host to a range of the mystery street artist’s most iconic works.

Using a combination of the Advanced Go Quick Edit tool and the Hyfire Taurus app, combined with active support from the engineering and technical teams at both brands, it was possible to deliver a system in record time that met all of the requirements of the event organisers and, importantly, their insurers.

“We are familiar with carrying out wireless installations within realistic timescales, but the secrecy that surrounds anything to do with Banksy meant that this was really short notice,” explained Jan Myatt, operations manager at Fire Queen. “Luckily, thanks to our long-standing partnerships with Advanced and Hyfire, and an in-depth knowledge of what their products can deliver, we were able to design and install the system in record time. It was a real team effort and we’re so grateful to both teams for their knowledge and support.”

Action stations

Hyfire offers a wide range of commercial standard wireless fire devices spanning from optical, multi-criteria and heat detectors through to notification, alarm, interface and control units, all of them fully certified to EN 54.

All products are fully compliant with BS 5839 Part 1. Fire panels are wired via a loop to translators, from which wireless devices can then be used on their own to build fully wireless systems of virtually any size or otherwise mixed with Hyfire wired products to provide seamless hybrid solutions, in turn offering total flexibility for specifiers and installers alike.

Mark Piert, regional sales manager for the North West at Hyfire, commented: “When the call came from Fire Queen, it was action stations. The good thing is that Hyfire devices are designed to work seamlessly with Advanced panels. This is exactly the sort of installation where wireless comes into its own, so we were able to devise a suitable system in a matter of days. When you’re safeguarding artworks worth millions of pounds, as well as the people in the building, you feel a sense of responsibility, but we have 100% confidence in our product and its ability to deliver.”

Fire protection

Advanced develops and manufactures fire protection solutions. The company’s reputation for performance, quality and ease of use sees its products specified in locations around the world, from single-panel installations like this one right up to large, multi-site networks. Advanced’s products include complete fire detection systems, multiprotocol fire panels, extinguishing control, false alarm management and reduction systems as well as emergency lighting.

“This is a great example of close collaboration to deliver on a complex and urgent brief,” explained Phil Calvey, sales manager at Advanced. “It’s so exciting to be protecting an internationally significant event like this and the fact that we were able to deliver the system so rapidly shows the level of support and expertise offered by all involved.”

Calvey concluded: “The Go panel is the latest addition to our panel portfolio. As a single-loop, non-networkable panel, it’s ideal for smaller, standalone installations, offering all of the desired performance, quality and ease of use in locations where multi-panel networking is not required.”

The equipment was ordered & delivered the very next day from Hyfire Wireless; we proceeded to build the system in house prior to installation.
We were using a combination of Advanced Go & Hyfire Taurus software to build the system; this was simple using a combination of Advanced Go Quick edit tool & the Hyfire Taurus QR code scanner to add devices.
We completed the installation & used the Advanced Logo Programmer to add a bespoke touch by putting a Banksy logo on the LCD display. A framed zonal plan was added to finish off the project within the requested 1 week time scale….. mission accomplished!!
Polished chrome fire extinguishers on matching tubular chrome stands were also added to compliment this prestigious event.
