There are 7 main Fire Extinguisher types – Carbon Dioxide, Foam, Powder, Specialist Powder, Water, Wet Chemical & Lithium.

You must have the correct Fire Extinguishers for your premises, or risk not meeting current regulations.  Fire extinguishers are available in different types with each one having specific classes of fire on which they are suitable for.  Fire extinguishers meeting BS EN3 should have a red body (RAL 3000) & an agent specific colour band covering between 5-10% of the surface, relating to the extinguisher’s contents.

Carbon Dioxide

A carbon dioxide fire extinguisher is suitable for Class B & electrical fires; it works by displacing the oxygen in the air, thereby suffocating the fire & preventing it from spreading.  CO2 fire extinguishers can also be used on flammable liquids such as petrol & solvents.

Carbon Dioxide (Co2)

Carbon Dioxide (Co2) Fire Extinguisher

Carbon Dioxide is ideal for fires involving electrical equipment; it will also extinguish flammable liquids such as paraffin, petrol & oil.
These fire extinguishers are fully re-chargeable, serviceable & supplied with a wallmounting bracket & Identification Sign.

Suitable for use on class A solid combustible fires & class B flammable liquid fires.  Foam Spray Fire Extinguishers smother burning materials & help prevent re-ignition, by creating a blanket effect.  Please note, unless they are described specifically as Class F Fire Extinguishers, they should not be used on fires involving cooking oil.

Foam Spray

Foam is an effective smothering agent, used mainly for liquid fires.  It acts by flowing over the liquid fuel or oil surface, isolating the fire from the air; also helps prevent re-ignition.

Dry Powder

Dry Powder Fire Extinguishers (ABC) are suitable for fighting class A,B & C fires. ABC powder extinguishers have a very good fire fighting capacity, but the powder does not soak into materials & does not have a cooling effect on the fire.

Dry Powder

Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher

Often termed the ‘Multi-Purpose’ Fire Extinguisher, it can be used on solids such as paper, wood, plastic, & flammable liquids such as paraffin, petrol, oil, & also flammable gases, such as propane, butane, methane etc.
Our fire extinguishers are fully re-chargeable & carry a 10-Year Warranty.

Wet Chemical

Wet Chemical is
a specialist fire extinguisher for use on cooking oil fires (class F) & also has a capability against solid fires (class A).

Wet Chemical Fire Extinguisher

Wet Chemical

These specialist wet chemical fire extinguishers are for Class F fires, involving cooking oils & fats, such as lard, olive oil, sunflower oil, maize oil & butter. They are extremely effective; the wet chemical rapidly knocks the flames out, cools the burning oil & chemically reacts to form a crust like lid, sealing the surface & preventing re-ignition.

  • Tested on 75 litres of cooking oils and kitemarked
  • User friendly, 6 litre size
  • Cylinder, lance & nozzle constructed from high quality, stainless steel
  • Unique hose swivel joint for easy directional control
  • Simple to use with controllable discharge

wet chemical fire extinguisher

Wet chemical  is the only type of extinguisher which should be used on kitchen fires involving cooking fats & oils; they work by instigating a chemical reaction with the fats and oils.  This reaction reduces the temperature & eliminates the heat causing the fire to die down; they have a special lance which allows application from a distance.  If you require training in the use of this type of fire extinguisher, we can help.

Lith-Ex Fire Extinguisher

Fire Extinguishers for Lithium Batteries

Fire Queen Limited can supply fire extinguishers for tackling Lithium-Ion battery fires.  These high performance Lith-Ex fire extinguishers contain AVD (Aqueous Vermiculite Dispersion) compound – a revolutionary fire extinguishing agent – & are designed to target high risk fires of a limited size.  They are suited to confined spaces such as homes, hotel rooms, vehicles, public transport, aviation, marine or leisure & dedicated processes where in all instances fires need to be suppressed in their infancy before developing into a fully established fire.

How it works:

When a lithium-ion cell goes into thermal runaway (increase in temperature) there are multiple possible sources of heat; for example:

  • Combustion – burning of electrolyte, packaging etc.
  • Ohmic – resistive heating caused by high current flow through short circuits
  • Thermodynamic – if the electrodes are no longer isolated, then the system will revert to its lowest energy state for that temperature, as long as the activation energy is met
  • Chemical – reaction of the electrode material with other components of the battery (electrolyte), thermal decomposition of the metal oxide electrode, especially cobalt oxide

In addition to this multitude of mechanisms, the design of the cell often prevents direct access of the extinguishing agent to the source of the fire, making it is difficult to extinguish the fire.

If you require training for the use of this type of fire extinguisher, we can help as part of our comprehensive fire training program

Fire blankets are primarily used on hot oil fires e.g. frying pans or small deep fat fryers. They can also be used on a person whose clothing has caught fire. They work by smothering the fire, stopping access to the oxygen & extinguishing it.
